Protection Relays

Protection relays on Voltkart: 34 phase, voltage, current and pump protection relays from Minilec, Selec, EAPL and Teknika, from ₹550 including GST. Use the tables below to pick the relay for the fault you need to catch.

Protection relays guard three-phase motors, pumps and panels from single phasing, voltage swings, phase reversal and overload. Typical uses are borewell and pump starters, compressors, conveyors and machine panels. Prices checked 8 October 2026. Reviewed by Amit, Voltkart.

How to choose

  • Fault to catch: phase failure or sequence, under/over voltage, unbalance, over current, or motor winding temperature.
  • Supply: 230 V single phase or 415 V three phase, with or without neutral.
  • Reset and settings: auto or manual reset, fixed or adjustable trip points and time delay.
  • Mounting: most of these mount on 35 mm DIN rail; 17.5 mm relays save panel space.

Voltkart is an authorised distributor of Minilec, Selec and EAPL: see the Minilec, Selec and EAPL distributor pages. Teknika relays are supplied as a dealer (Teknika page). Related: overload relays, contactors, level controllers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a phase sequence relay and a voltage protection relay?

A phase sequence relay only checks that the three phases are present and in the right order (R-Y-B), so a motor never runs in reverse. A voltage protection relay also trips when the voltage goes too low or too high, which protects motors from overheating on a weak or surging supply.

Which relay should I use for a borewell or submersible pump?

A single phasing preventer such as the Minilec VSP 2 or VSP D1 is the usual choice for a three-phase pump starter. If the pump can run dry, the Minilec VPG D1 adds a low water level input.

Do I still need an overload relay with a protection relay?

Yes. Most voltage and phase relays do not measure motor current. Keep the thermal overload relay or MPCB in the starter, or use a current-sensing relay such as the Minilec MPR D2.

How is a protection relay wired?

The relay monitors the incoming phases and its output contact is wired in series with the contactor coil. When a fault is detected the contact opens and the contactor drops out, stopping the motor.
