Thermal Overload Relays

A thermal overload relay protects a motor from overheating when it is overloaded or running on a lost phase, by opening the control circuit of the contactor. Each relay has an adjustable current range that you set to the motor full-load current.

How to choose

• Pick a relay whose setting range includes the full-load current on the motor nameplate.
• Make sure the relay is designed to mount directly on your contactor.
• Manual or automatic reset, and the trip class for your motor duty.
