A thermal overload relay protects a motor from overheating when it is overloaded or loses a phase, by opening the contactor's control circuit. Each relay has an adjustable range that you set to the motor's full-load current. We stock genuine Schneider LRE and LRD relays with a GST invoice. Prices checked 6 October 2026. How to choose an overload relay

Current range: the motor's nameplate full-load current should sit within the relay's range, ideally near the middle.
Contactor: LRE mounts on LC1E contactors, LRD on LC1D09–38, LRD3 on LC1D40–65 and LRD33 on LC1D80–95.
Reset: set manual reset where an automatic restart could be unsafe.

Frequently asked questions

Which overload relay fits which contactor?

Use LRE relays on Schneider LC1E (Easy TeSys) contactors and LRD relays on LC1D (TeSys D) contactors. For LC1D40 to LC1D65 use the LRD3 series (LRD332 to LRD365), and for LC1D80 and LC1D95 use the LRD33 series (LRD3353 to LRD3365).

How do I set an overload relay?

Pick a relay whose range includes the full-load current (FLC) on the motor nameplate, then set the dial to that FLC. For example, a motor with a 7.5 A FLC needs a 5.5–8 A relay (LRE12 or LRD12) set to 7.5 A. See our overload relay sizing guide or the free motor starter calculator.

What is the price of a Schneider overload relay?

On Voltkart Schneider LRE overload relays start at ₹1,650 and LRD relays at ₹1,890, including GST. The largest, LRD3365 (80–104 A), is ₹9,157.

Do LRE and LRD relays have the same current ranges?

Yes. Codes with the same number cover the same range, for example LRE14 and LRD14 are both 7–10 A. They differ in which contactor they mount on.

Overload relay or MPCB?

A contactor plus an overload relay gives overload protection, with a separate MCB or fuse for short-circuit protection. An MPCB combines overload and short-circuit protection in one device and still needs a contactor for remote start/stop.
