What is an on-off cam switch used for?

It is a manual rotary isolator that switches a machine, motor or panel on and off. Padlockable versions can be locked in the OFF position during maintenance so nobody can switch the supply back on.

3 pole or 4 pole?

A 3-pole switch breaks the three phases; a 4-pole switch also breaks the neutral, fully isolating equipment on a three-phase-plus-neutral supply.

Which rating do I need?

Choose a current rating at or above the full-load current of the circuit, and check the motor-duty rating on the switch label for motor loads.
