What size VFD do I need?

Match the drive to the motor full-load current, not just kW, and step up one size for heavy-starting loads such as compressors and crushers. Single-phase input drives suit 230 V supplies up to about 2.2 kW.

Can a VFD run a motor from a single-phase supply?

Yes. A single-phase input VFD (230 V in, three-phase 230 V out) can run a three-phase motor wound for 230 V delta. For a 415 V motor you need a three-phase input drive.
