Mean Well, Delta and Omron all make reliable industrial SMPS. For a standard 24V control panel in India, Mean Well is usually the easiest to buy and the lowest-cost; Omron's S8VK-G stands out for a very wide operating temperature range; and Delta suits panels already built around Delta drives and PLCs. The right choice depends on output, mounting, input supply and operating temperature, not the brand name alone.

What matters more than the brand

• Output voltage and current: add up the load and keep 20–30% headroom. A 24V load of about 5 A needs a 24V supply of 6.5 A or more.
• Mounting: DIN-rail supplies clip onto the rail; enclosed supplies such as Mean Well LRS screw to a mounting plate and usually cost less for the same output.
• Input supply: most supplies take single-phase 230V. Some Mean Well enclosed models (LRS-150, LRS-350, LRS-600) have a 115/230V selector that must be set to 230V in India. For panels with only a 3-phase supply, choose a 3-phase input model such as Mean Well TDR or Delta CliQ II 3-phase.
• Operating temperature: check the datasheet's working temperature and derating curve if the panel runs hot or very cold.
• High power: above a few hundred watts, power factor correction (PFC) keeps the input current cleaner. Mean Well RSP, NDR, SDR and TDR include PFC.
• Spares and standardisation: using one brand across your panels keeps spares simple. Availability and lead time in your city matter as much as the datasheet.

Mean Well: strengths and limits

Strengths: the widest standard range of the three, low prices on the enclosed LRS series, and wide availability in India. The same output is usually available both enclosed and DIN-rail, so you can pick by panel layout.

Limits: the low-cost LRS models need plate mounting rather than a DIN rail, and the larger ones have an input selector switch that must be set correctly. For DIN-rail mounting, use MDR, HDR, EDR or NDR instead.

Delta: strengths and limits

Strengths: a large, established power electronics maker. Its CliQ range covers DIN-rail supplies including 3-phase input models, and it fits naturally into panels built around Delta AC drives and PLCs.

Limits for buyers: Voltkart does not stock Delta power supplies, so check availability and lead time with a Delta supplier near you.

Omron: strengths and limits

Strengths: Omron's S8VK-G is compact, lists a −40 to 70 °C operating range, two sets of DC output terminals and a 120% Power Boost for short peaks, which suits harsh environments and loads with high start-up current.

Which should you choose?

• Standard 24V control panel, cost matters: Mean Well LRS (enclosed) or EDR/NDR (DIN rail).
• Panel built around Delta drives and PLCs: a Delta supply keeps one vendor; any good 24V supply of the right rating works equally well.
• Very hot or very cold location: compare datasheet temperature ratings; Omron S8VK-G is rated −40 to 70 °C.
• Only a 3-phase supply in the panel: a 3-phase input model such as Mean Well TDR or Delta CliQ II 3-phase.
• Replacing a failed unit: match voltage, current (same or higher), mounting, dimensions and terminal positions. A Mean Well of the same rating is usually available off the shelf.

None of the three is better for every panel. All three are established makers of industrial power supplies. Choose by the output you need, the mounting, the input supply, the operating temperature and what you can buy and replace easily. For standard 24V control panels in India, Mean Well is the most widely stocked and usually the lowest-cost option.

Can I replace a Delta or Omron SMPS with a Mean Well?

Usually yes, if the replacement matches the output voltage, has at least the same current rating, uses the same mounting (DIN rail or enclosed) and accepts your input supply. Check the dimensions and terminal positions before ordering, and set the input selector to 230V on Mean Well models that have one.
